Why do I need to protect my headlights or fog lamps? Show/Hide FAQ
Your lights are not only a possible very expensive part to replace when they become damaged, but they are also a very important part of your vehicle as far as safety is concerned.
As your lights become aged, they become more pitted on the lenses from general road traffic dirt, stones, grit and salt. They can also yellow over time. All of these attributes affect your light output and pitting can dangerously refract the light emitted. This can cause 'Blinding' to oncoming traffic, generally give a poor light on the road ahead and become an MOT failure.
Those who undertake many motorway journeys or partake in track days tend to suffer more with Chips/cracks. This is obviously a case where a replacement light is needed straight away and the UK law can present you with a vehicle defect notice if you continue to drive with damaged lighting.
For those with Show cars or Weekend classic cars its quite simply protection for your investment. We understand the thinking behind wanting to keep your pride and joys parts as 'mint' or 'as new' as possible.
Overall our
products are of use to:
Race teams, track day drivers, classic car/show car enthusiasts, the general public who are safety conscious,
motorway mile munchers and bikers.
Our protection
films offer you fit and forget piece of mind, they offer long term protection...
We like to think that we offer you a little insurance for you and your vehicles
condition and safety.
What size to protect my headlights or fog lamps? Show/Hide FAQ
This is purely because although we only advise fitting to the 'face' of your lighting, we find that many customers prefer to apply our products around curves and contours. Our current selection of sizes offer you the chance to custom fit to your needs. This wouldn't be possible with a pre-cut product which will only ever protect the face of the light.
Details on measuring up for fitment can be found on our main Shop page of the site. But basically it is advised to measure the widest and tallest points, taking any curves/contours into account and then selecting a suitable size from the online shop.
Holding one or two A4 pieces of paper against the light can sometimes help
with this.
Is your tinted/coloured light protection road legal? Show/Hide FAQ
The law/Mot hand book within the UK states that front primary lighting must produce a White or Yellow light. There is no documentation about the colour of the actual lens.
Our Clear/SubtleTint/GunSmoke/OpticBlue light protection films all produce a legal natural light colour, and our Yellow produces a Yellow tinted light which is of course perfectly legal within the UK.
None of our light protection films change/adjust the beam pattern or cause
insufficient light output.
Plastic headlight covers, can I use your product? Show/Hide FAQ
We have many previous customers that have banished their plastic headlight covers in favour of our product. Plastic light covers offer little long term protection and actually become damaged themselves. Its false economy to spend your hard earned money on a product that will without doubt become damaged and need replacing time after time. Especially when the stone flicked from the vehicle in front is any bigger than a one pence piece!
Being plastic or perspex they have a high 'shear' factor and can not withstand a continuous battering from stones, grit and general road dirt. They do not age very well, becoming scratched, hazy and often discoloured.
Many customers have told us how they dislike the look of them, and the fact that they often sit away from the lens which allows dirt to gather on the rear face and also on your light lenses!...requiring removing and cleaning on a regular basis.
Our products are fit and forget long term protection for your vehicle.
If fitting our product to a plastic cover was something you were
interested in, then this is no problem. But we are very sure that you will
banish your plastic covers as many before you have.
I have plastic lenses, can I use your product? Show/Hide FAQ
Our product is suitable for all lens types, although some extra points need adhering too with plastic lenses. If your plastic lenses have unfortunately already suffered from the lacquer lifting away or hazing/crackling, then upon removal of our product, the product may pull more of the lacquer off the lens. Quite an obvious point we know.
All plastic lenses should be in perfectly good or near new order and well maintained before the fitment of our product. Well maintained meaning regular cleaning and polishing with a product such as Meguiars Plast-X. We can not be held responsible for damage occurred during the fitment/use of or removal of our product.
What about tinting rear/tail lights with the product? Show/Hide FAQ
(Sidelights, brake lights, fog, reverse, indicators)
Our Red rear tint film often requires quality LED bulbs and resistors to maintain an orange/yellow indicator flash. This method works 95% of the time and is dependant on the size/internal design of your tail light. Normal green bulbs work in some cases, but only 50% of the time hence we no longer sell them and we can not guarantee the desired results.
Your sidelights, brake lights and fog lights will operate as normal with our Red rear tinting film.
If any raised markings/reflectors are removed from your lights before application, this is done so at your own risk.
Please check your local laws.
What is it? Can I tint my windows with it? Show/Hide FAQ
The 'tint' or 'coloured' aspect came about when Lemans race teams needed a way to categorise different race car classes while racing at the same time on the same track. You have probably seen many a race car wearing our distinctive Yellow tinted headlight protection film. Maybe not so many wearing our Clear Light protection film...as its so optically clear.
The product is not simply developed as a tinting film, its much more technical than that. Tinting films offer zero protection for your vehicles lights, they are much thinner, the adhesive is very different. The light optics are often affected, they have a high 'shear' or 'tear' factor and they are for the most part illegal on primary lighting (within the Uk)
Regarding fitment to windows. Definitely not.
Our product is very, very different as above. You would not actually be able to
use your window due to the thickness of our product and we don't endorse
the use of our product in any other way than which it is intended for.
Many hours of development have gone into the product to achieve maximum
protection, maximum clarity and maximum light output while the
adhesive withstands all weathers and lasts.
Can I comfortably fit the products myself? Show/Hide FAQ
Our light protection films will form around small contours/curves no problem when applied with heat from such an item as a hair dryer, the warmer the better.
Our Ventureshield 3M © paint protection film is very forgiving, more so than our light protection film. It is easily formed around most contours most of the time...
Patience, cleanliness and preparation are key to ensuring correct application of all of our products...Fitment is often surprisingly easy !
There are bubbles and/or milkiness after fitting. Show/Hide FAQ
This is actually quite normal after application of the product. If you have not experienced this, then you have done a superb job of the application and you can pat yourself on the back.
Smaller air bubbles will magically disappear (normally within three days) but can take around two weeks depending on the weather and climate.
Larger air bubbles will take longer, overly large ones may need popping with a small pin. These larger ones are where the product should have been peeled back during fitting and smoothed out with the supplied squeegee.
The product is breathable and it is quite normal for a Cloudy/Milky
look to appear while it cures... This can appear as air escapes from the
products mating face via the top coat, and will clear as above.
What about after care? Washing/Waxing the car? Show/Hide FAQ
After curing, your vehicle can be washed as normal, obviously using a power wash hose directly on the product isn't advisable, simply using a wash mitt/sponge with your usual car shampoo is adequate.
Using a car polish is not something we advise. It will not be advantageous to the product in any way. Using a car wax is advisable though not imperative. But simply carried out during your normal waxing routine will help to keep the stability of uva/uvb resistance.
Feel free to contact
us for advise regarding polishes and waxes should you not know the
difference.
Can the products be removed without damage? Show/Hide FAQ
Once the film has settled (at least 48 hours) the product is not considered reusable. Upon removal, warm the film and lift off slowly at an acute angle. If there is any additional adhesive left on light lenses, simply rub the adhesive with isopropyl alcohol. If any adhesive is left upon paint, blotting with a suitable car polish and light rubbing will remove the most part...while the use of a clay bar will remove smaller deposits.
We can not be held responsible for inexperienced and/or incorrect removal of
products.
